Glossary Terms: Change Scope

A glossary term is identifiable by two light gray, facing brackets at each end of the term. They are not keyboard brackets that look like this: [ and ]. Rather, they are special lighter grey brackets that you typically would not even see unless you checked the special box under "Word | File | Options | Advanced | Show Document Content" (Yes, Microsoft really doesn't want you to see them.

But when the glossary terms do not come into your document correctly, you will need to display those bookmarks to see why that is the case. Most likely, the term is coming in incorrrectly because you have not included the final paragraph marker. To change the scope of the bookmark, just add a paragraph marker at the end, making sure that the closing bookmark bracket moves to the right. You could also highlight the term, including the omitted paragraph marker and the simply 'Add' the bookmarked text via Insert | Bookmarks. Of course, you are not really adding a bookmark, but this is Words way of letting you change the scope of the bookmark term.

Pathagoras has a tool that allows you to do this globally. Click Pathagoras Features (bottom half) | Authoring Editing Tools | Glossary Tools. Select the floating toolbar. On that new display, click Change Scope, and then 'Include Final Enter'. Pathagoras will cycle through every term and make sure that that final enter is within the scope of the bookmarks.
