Instant Database

Instant Database for Excel is identical in purpose and almost identical in form to IDB in Pathagoras for Word. The only difference is the addition of the 'scan where and what' checkboxes just above the Next button. This allows you to select what sections of the document you wish Pathagoras to look for variables. (Main spreadsheet, text boxes and named cells)

To recall a mask or a personal data record, click the IDB button. When the IDB screen appears, select the desired Mask (left side) or Personal Data Record (right side).
Make any changes needed in the record to accurately complete the underlying spreadsheet.
In the upper right hand corner of the IDB screen, check where you want the replacements to be made. You can replace text (1) that appears as a bracketed variable within cells, (2) that is the value of a named cell that matches the variable (without the brackets -- don't worry, Pathagoras handles the presence or absence of [brackets] automatically, or (3) that appears as bracketed text within text boxes, or (4) any combination of the above.)

As indicated above, you can replace variables within a spreadsheet with IDB, but, just like with IDB in Word, you can scan for the presence of uncompleted variables within a displayed worksheet. Simply check where you want Pathagoras to scan ("Cells", "Names" and/or "TextBoxes") and then click the Scan button. (Further, if you already have a Mask or Personal Data Record displayed, Pathagoras will augment the Mask or PDR with the new variables that it finds.)

Read more about IDB screenage and functions in general in the IDB pages of the main Pathagoras Manual.
