FAQs-Miscellaneous:
Q. What does Pathagoras cost?
A. Click here for prices.
Q. How did you come up with the name ‘Pathagoras’ and what does it mean?
A. ‘Pathagoras’ is wordplay on the name of the Greek philosopher Pythagoras (and is pronounced the same, with the accent on the second syllable: Pa-THA-go-ras). Pythagoras was a 1st Century B.C. Greek philosopher best known for the famous mathematical theorem attributed to him. More importantly to this program, Pythagoras believed that the essence of all things is number, that all matter was essentially numerical, and that all relationships in the universe could be expressed numerically.
Pathagoras, the program, derives its name from this remarkable thinker. Its original function, as expressed in its PathSmart module, was to express complex and unwieldy DOS path names numerically. That ‘numbers-based’ philosophy is still the foundation upon which all subsequent versions of the program depend.
Q. What is this ‘Checkbox screen’ all about?
A. This is one of those features that is at the ‘heart and soul’ of the program. In its simplest usage, it is just another way of looking at your directory. Instead of the standard Window’s view which requires you to scroll through many documents to get to the one you want, you may use the Checkbox screen to avoid folders and (if you filter before the display) unwanted files from your choices.
In more advanced processes, you can assemble complete documents by just clicking on the specific clauses from all of those in the display.
Q. How does PathSmart/SaveSmart (document management) differ from Document Assembly.
A. Simply put, PathSmart maps and manages directories and their contents. Document Assembly modules goal is to allow the user to create original documents from boilerplate text. Both modules tame the unwieldy DOS directory tree, but do so for different purposes.
See this link for a more detailed answer to this question.
A PathSmart profile allows the user to quickly get to mapped directories in order to open, edit and save in an organized fashion the various documents on one’s computer. A document assembly library, on the other hand, is designed to speed the creation of documents by quickly displaying clauses for selection.
The two modules are not mutually exclusive. Indeed they are designed to operate hand-in-glove. For example, a user might create an original document from the books and libraries accessed via the Document Assembly module, but would store them via the SaveSmart screen. Later, if the user want to recall the document for editing, it would be done via PathSmart.
A folder mapped in to a PathSmart profile can be the same folder as a book mapped in the Document Assembly library. For example, ‘Office Forms’ might be in both places (in PathSmart for editing, in DocAssembly for composing). Typically, however, a folder containing personal client matters (mailed letters, completed separation agreements). would never be part of a Document Assembly library. Why? Because personal client matters are not the sort that are used to create future documents. But a folder containing personal client letters and documents is precisely the kind that would be mapped within a PathSmart profile.
There are other differences among the modules, some subtle, some more blatant. Only actual use of the program will bring into focus the differences between them. Just take comfort in knowing that they all work together, and seamlessly so.
