FAQs-Adding Text to a Glossary

Q. How do I add text to my glossary?

A. There are several ways to add text to any glossary. They are all quite easy.

1. Highlight & Add:

Highlight the text you want to add to your glossary. Press <Alt-G> (you will recognize this as Pathagoras’ universal ‘trigger key’). Provide the name for the term and follow the prompts to select the glossary into which you want to add the text. That’s it. Check it out by typing the name of the newly added glossary term to a blank editing screen. Press <Alt-G>.  There it is!

2. Instant Glossary:

Pathagoras can disassemble a complete document into its component parts and create for you a complete, fully functional glossary from the resulting 'pieces'. All you need to do it neuter the text, add alternative clauses (if desired) and you are ready to roll. Simple, fast, elegant.

There is very little document prep when you use "Instant Glossary." You simply mark where one clause ends and another begins with paragraph markers ('Enters') or page or section breaks.

The button to create an "Instant Glossary" is found in the Pathagoras drop down menu. (You can also find it under "Glossary Functions" and under "Glossary Tools.)

3.  Bulk Add:

Similar to Instant Glossary, but it gives you a bit more control over the marking and naming of the various clauses. Display a favorite document onto your editing screen. Mark the beginning and ending locations of its various component parts with unique (but simple text) coding. Add simple ‘plain text’ variables to take advantage of Pathagoras’ Instant Database and GotForms? modules.  Duplicate appropriate terms to account for sex or number or author variations using the multitude of tools that Pathagoras makes available.

3. AutoAdd:

If you have a collection of clauses already in the form of text (standard or Rich Text) or Word or WordPerfect documents (perhaps you went to a continuing education course and picked up a disk full of proposed text for a certain type of document) you can ‘Auto-Add’ all of those clauses into a new (or existing) glossary.  Just click on the appropriate tab and button under the Utilities&Settings|Glossary in the Pathagoras drop down menu. (If the names of the various documents are not ‘legal’ names for bookmarks, some name changing may be required. Pathagoras will walk you through the process.

If any of these Glossary creation options are more challenging than you want to tackle, Pathagoras offers a service to convert these clauses into a glossary for you. Contact Pathagoras at support@pathagoras.com for more information.
