Announcing Pathagoras: Version 10.3 Upgrades This ‘release’ of Pathagoras brings a lot of nice twists on the existing features, but really doesn’t add any major features. (Notable exception: “Notes” (see page 3). The release number (10.3), therefore remains the same. Here is what is new, however.
· New look: Ţ New Colors: Screen colors now track the standard default Windows colors. Many customers had told me that the grey marbled background did not offer enough contrast to be easily readable. We listened, and we responded. Ţ New selection screens: Fewer push buttons. More radio buttons. Radio (option) buttons and a single “Next” button now populate most screens where a selection is called for. Ţ More intuitive: More helpful screenage and more helpful redirections. If you press a button when the system is not yet ‘ready’ for the requested action, Pathagoras will tell you what is wrong and give you helpful information on how to do what you want. · New “SmartNotes” feature: You can attach a note to any term to advise a user why or when to use that term. See page 3 for more information about this very helpful addition. · <<*Optional*>> and <<*Options*>> text block improvements: Introduced in the last newsletter, this feature has come a long way since. Here are the changes: Ţ A new Options Reviewing screen dissects the various elements of the <<*Options*>> block to make it easier to see what you have (and what might be wrong). Access the Options Reviewing screen via Utilities Settings>>Editing Tools. Click the Review <<*Options/Optional*>> button. Ţ Groupings (just like those currently found in the InstantDatabase) are now available. Select one of a grouped set of <<*Optional*>> or <<*Options*>> blocks, and the rest are selected for you automatically. Ţ Single choice vs. multiple choice. The default selection screen for choices presented by <<*Options*>> presents ‘checkboxes,’ allowing the user to select one, several or all of the listed choices. (The user can also select an appropriate ‘connector’—”and” or “or”— when more than one item is selected. If you wish to limit the user to one of the presented choices, add the word “(radio)” (no quotes, but parenthesis mandatory) before the second asterisk and Pathagoras will present radio buttons (only one of which may be selected) in place of the checkboxes. For example: <<*Options(radio)*Bananas/Strawberries/Kumquats>>
See a review of <<*Options*>> text on page 4 titled The “Anatomy of <<*Options*>>“ · Dropdown list improvements: When selecting “Virtual Checksheet” from the dropdown lists, Pathagoras will generate an exact duplicate of the list. The old behavior was to regenerate the glossary or folder on which the list was based, requiring a complete reread of the data. This direct generation of the screen is much faster, and is more in line with what you actually asked for. · PathSmart/SaveSmart now ‘hideable’: A few users asked for a way to hide the PathSmart and SaveSmart features. The customers had purchased Pathagoras primarily for its document assembly features and the PathSmart and SaveSmart buttons on the Pathagoras toolbar were distracting during the learning process. Done. You can now toggle a limited 2-button (document assembly) display versus the full 4-button display. This is done via Utilities/Settings>>Miscellaneous. Check (or uncheck) the box labeled “Show 2-button Pathagoras toolbar.” If you have a copy of Pathagoras that is more than one week old, you should definitely download the ‘latest-greatest’ version right now.
