Little Checkboxes

Top  Previous  Next

Those little checkboxes that reside at the bottom of the action panel on the Clause Selection Screen serve important functions. Some are layout related, some help as you are refining and testing your system. They allow you different views of your assembled text based on different parameters. Typically, all boxes will be unchecked, but occasionally you need a document assembled using different rules and views. This is where it can be accomplished.

NOTE:  When you hover over any of the checkboxes,
a pop-up tip will appear reminding you of its function.

From left to right:

  1. The first checkbox tell Pathagoras to insert each selected term or clause into a separate document. So if you selected 30 clauses, you would end up with 30 separate documents.

  2. The second checkbox tells Pathagoras to first create a table within the document and to assemble the selected terms into the various cells of the table, one per cell. Pathagoras will pause to ask how many columns you desire. I calculates the number of rows by simple division.

  3. The third checkbox tells Pathagoras to ignore the template that you may have assigned to documents created from this book. This assignment would have been made in the Settings screen. (Look for the Templates tab.) If you want to view an absolutely 'pristine' document built using the 'normal' template, check this box.

  4. The fourth checkbox ignores any assignment of a mask to an assembled document. This assignment, too, would have been made in the Setting screen. (Look for the IDB tab.) (When a mask is automatically assigned to your assembled document, and you press the Alt-D button, Pathagoras will not scan the document for variables. Rather it will only present the mask. If you have document variables that you need to 'discover' without the interference of a pre-linked mask, check this box.

  5. Pathagoras tries to show as little screen activity as possible as a document is being constructed. But screen flashing and repaint will occur during the assembly process. With short documents, the visual effect is typically not troublesome nor slow. For extremely long documents, the opposite might be true. If you click box #5, Pathagoras will quite literally 'hide' Word, assemble the document and when done, return to Word with a complete document. Whether to assemble in this way is a personal choice. (It does take some getting used to. Seeing Word 'disappear' can be disconcerting at first.
